Dot is steeped in traditional jazz. She honed her skills while consuming and experiencing the beginnings of major jazz movements with artists like Jelly Roll Morton and Bix Biederbecke. Dot’s vocal influences include Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan, and Abbey Lincoln.

Jazz is the one medium where I can be myself. I sing what’s in my head. I take the standards and make them my own. I don’t feel the constrained like I do with other styles of music. With jazz I can truly be my most creative. – Dot Wilder
